Pastor Al James, feeling the calling of the Lord, was sent out from Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa to start a church in Prescott, AZ. Calvary Chapel of Prescott began as a home fellowship in Pastor Al's home. It soon grew in size and by 1981 the church met in the basement of the local Methodist church. After outgrowing the basement and another building, Calvary Prescott ended up in what had been affectionately coined "The Barn." The Barn consisted of a metal building that was converted into a sanctuary and it was there that the church began to grow into the hundreds.
The church then acquired the facilities of Prescott Christian School, located on Highway 69, just outside Prescott's city limits. Obviously God knew that this would be the ideal spot from which to share the Gospel Message to the Tri-City area!
The current campus looks very little like it did when the property was purchased in 1985... Paved parking lots, remodeled youth buildings, new Bible College facilities and new Sanctuary and Children's buildings are just a few of the changes... If you are in the tri-city area, we invite you to come to our campus and look around.
Because of the explosive growth in the area, we felt the leading of the Lord to expand our fellowship into Prescott Valley. We currently have Sunday morning services at our Prescott Valley campus.
On May 11th, 2008, Pastor Al James delivered a messag entitled "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus". In this message he explained the work the Lord had been doing in his heart for well over a year; and that was to step back as senior pastor and to allow Pastor Raj Ahuja to take on the role of leading Calvary Chapel of Prescott. Pastor Raj is completely dedicated to the work of the Lord, and is seeking to draw the people of our fellowship to a place of true intamacy with Christ. Pastor Raj has even given us as a church a vision for how we can see our fellowship used in our community.
